It’s nearly January and I love getting a head start on all the birthday cards I’ll need for the upcoming year. It just happened to be colour challenge week at the Global Design Project, so this Petite Petals birthday card is my entry for challenge #GDP013.
This week the challenge was to use Red Real, Old Olive and Crumb Cake. Immediately, my mind when to Christmas cards, but I wanted to play outside the box so used Petite Petals for a birthday card. I love that this set has a variety of small flowers to choose from. I also wanted to challenge myself to use products I haven’t used as much as I’d like. The Deco Label Framelits are gorgeous, and I think they work really well on this card – I’ll definitely be using them more often. I love that there are four nested labels in the collection, so they layer really nicely.
It was a nice, quick card to work up, so would be a good one to use if you had lots of cards to make. You could even change out the stamped images and the sentiment for a completely different card.
I ran the Crumb Cake card base through the Big Shot using my Chevron embossing folder and then die cut the second largest Deco Label. I stamped the fern images from Butterfly Basics three times, with one of them being stamped off for a lighter green. I used scraps of Whisper White for the stamped flower images and the sentiment and I LOVE it when I have scraps that are just the right size! Pieces of Old Olive and Real Red finish of the card nicely.
Of course I had to pretty it up a bit with some bling – this time with some rhinestones and ribbon. I think I’ll be making a few more of this design, possibly in a lot of different colour combinations.
